After a long battle against ovarian cancer, actress Edith González died at 54. The news was shared by her family on social media.
She was very popular thanks to her work in telenovelas, such as “Salomé”, “Nunca te olvidaré” and “Doña Bárbara.” She had a daughter with politician Santiago Creel, former presidential candidate in Mexico, and later, she married Lorenzo Lazo, with whom she spent the last years of her life.

The actress was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, and she seemed to have beaten the illness, but then in April, she suffered a relapse and had to stop working at the TV Azteca reality show “Este es mi estilo.”
The actress was an active member of campaigns related to cancer diagnosis and treatment. She also participated in some social campaigns with the former Mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera, and even declared that she was a “fan” of cancer.
This statement was very controversial, of course. She said that while serving as ambassador of the “Living with Glamour” campaign in 2017, and she explained that she was a fan of this condition because “cancer is a very intelligent being; we have to study it, understand it, and don’t pay a lot of attention to it.” She considered cancer an intelligent cell because it cheats the rest of the body: “How can you not be a fan of such an intelligent thing? I’m a survivor and I’m here because science allowed me, because there is a God in heaven and because I want to,” said the actress.

She always encouraged women to get check-ups to prevent ovarian cancer, and was even recognized by Mexico City’s government for her activism.
May she rest in peace.
