The study is based on measuring the heart rate of 250 people during the screening of different horror films to determine which accelerates the heart rate the most.
The scoring system records the number of beats per minute (BPM) and heart rate variation (HRV), which measures the time between each heartbeat. In this way, the greater the number of beats and the faster their frequency, the film causes more blood is pumped, which is an indicator of excitement and fear as part of the fight or flight instinct.
