We finally have news about the sequel to Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve’s hit film starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Ana de Armas, which picked up what happened in Ridley Scott’s 1982 Blade Runner.
It should be noted that these films are not the only products belonging to the Blade Runner universe and when Denis Villeneuve’s sequel was released, three short films set in different chronological moments were also released, which serve as context to understand everything that is happening in the universe of the replicants.

Prime Video’s Plans For Blade Runner 2099
Well, now, Prime Video announced that plans for a Blade Runner 2049 sequel series are already underway and we already have some glimmers of information that would tell us a little more about this great production.
It was in the summer of 2022 when the series was greenlit and began with the pre-production phase, however, it will be at the end of June 2024 that filming will begin in Prague and Spain, as confirmed by Collider.
Likewise, this series will be headed by Michelle Yeoh, who you may remember for her participation in A24’s ‘Everything, Everything All At Once’, which earned her an Oscar Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Likewise, other personalities who have joined to raise this project are Ridley Scott himself, who will serve as producer of the series alongside Michael Green (screenwriter of the Netflix series, ‘Blue Eyed Samurai’, which guarantees a huge narrative success); while it will be Silka Luisa’s job to be the showrunner of the series.
And if the above is not enough, it has been confirmed that the first two episodes of this series will be directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, in charge of making the first episodes of the acclaimed Star Plus series: ‘Shogun’.
Despite this big announcement, Prime Video still does not have a definite release date to launch this ambitious Blade Runner project, however, speculation points to this product arriving around 2025 and even 2026.
