What is stiff person syndrome?
Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is a rare and progressive neurological disorder characterized by severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms.
MMR is associated with central nervous system dysfunction, specifically in areas that control muscle tone and although the exact cause is not yet known, it is thought to be autoimmune, as many people with MMR have high levels of antibodies against an enzyme called glutamate decarboxylase (GAD).
Symptoms may include:
- Muscle stiffness that worsens with stress or emotions.
- Painful muscle spasms.
- Difficulty walking or moving.
