Tonight the actress MJ Rodriguez made history by becoming the first transgender woman to win a Golden Globe for her role as Blanca Evangelista in the critically-acclaimed TV series Pose.
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, 31, won her first Golden Globe in a rather atypical ceremony, which had no ceremony, no red carpet, and no guests in attendance. The reason is that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) faced a boycott due to the low inclusion of black people among its nominations and voters.
With MJ Rodriguez’s win in the Best Actress in a Drama Series category, Pose also received its first Golden Globe.
This is not the first time that the actress breaks glass ceilings among the trans community. In the summer of 2021, she received an Emmy nomination in the main acting category (remember that Laverne Cox was nominated for these awards in the comedy category).

Pose, which culminated with its third season, tells the story of a group of people from the trans and black gay community in the United States during the early and very difficult years of the HIV-AIDS pandemic.
As this reality is presented to us on screen, we can also witness the great skills of the characters that unfold in the Vogue scene, an environment that is not only of dancing and singing but of brotherhood and solidarity.
In addition to MJ Rodriguez, Pose also stars Billy Porter, Indya Moore, and Angelica Ross, among others. The series is an FX production.
