Over two years ago, the movie industry was shocked when learning about the tragic accident that took place on the set of the western film Rust. Alec Baldwin accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins taking her life, and injured director Joel Souza with a prop gun during rehearsals.
After the tragic events that even took Baldwin into court, many thought the movie was cursed and would never see the light; however, it resumed production 18 months after the tragedy in April 2023. The date coincides with the time Baldwin’s charges were dropped; he was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter along with the movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who is still waiting for her trial.
Rust: First Look and Halyna Hutchin’s Work
This Tuesday, Deadline finally revealed a first look at the film. The outlet shared five stills of the movie to give a first taste of this western full of great locations and ensured drama that has had people all over the world talking about.
The sepia-colored photos include two of Halyna Hutchin’s shots made before the tragic events. The other three stills belong to Bianca Cline, who took over Hutchin’s role when the movie resumed production last Spring.
What Is Rust About and When Will It Be Released?
Developed by Joel Souza and Alec Baldwin, Rust tells the story of Harlan Rust, an outlaw who leaves his retirement to help his grandson after he’s been sentenced to hang for the murder of a local rancher.
The tragic life of 13-year-old Lucas has taken a terrible turn after the death of his parents, and it’s now Harlan Rust’s job to step in his son’s shoes to help him out. Taking aside the curiosity that the movie might’ve fueled for the events that happened on set, the stills and the plot sound really promising. Sadly, there is no official release date so far, although it’s likely it will be out late this year.
