Sound of Freedom has generated enormous controversy after its release in the United States since the central theme is the trafficking of minors. Eduardo Verastegui, a controversial Mexican personality and producer of the film, fought for years for the movie to be distributed… until he succeeded.
Unfortunately, he has had to face big arguments. Among them, is the recent accusation and arrest of one of the investors, Fabian Marta, for child abduction. Ironic, isn’t it?!
Angel Studios Responds to Accusations from Sound of Freedom Investor
Angel Studios, the production and distribution company of Sound of Freedom, came out to face the allegations against Fabian Marta, who was arrested by the authorities last July 21 on charges of child abduction. This news caused a terrible impact because the movie, precisely, speaks about this crime, the mafias that are dedicated to the kidnapping of children, and the constant struggle to combat it.
Neal Harmon, co-founder of Angel Studios, clarified the relationship with the investors of the film, especially with Fabian Marta. His version was published in IndieWire, where he assured that this film project allowed hundreds of people to become investors to appear in the credits, so his relationship with Fabian would be completely null.

“Angel Studios adhered to the requirements of federal and state laws and regulations by allowing 6,678 individuals to invest an average of $501 each to power Sound of Freedom. Just as anyone can invest in the stock market, anyone who meets the legal requirements can invest in Angel Studios’ projects. One of the benefits of investing is the right to be mentioned in the credits,” Harmon said.
He also thanked all the law enforcement agents who have captured the heads of the child and human trafficking organizations, as well as emphasized the moral support for the families.
“We are grateful to the brave law enforcement officers who have already arrested dozens of traffickers in the weeks following the release of Sound of Freedom. Our film speaks to this invasive and legal problem, and we hope that perpetrators everywhere will be brought to justice no matter who they are and that more people will see the film to raise awareness,” he continued.
Finally, the man in charge of making the film, recommended by Mel Gibson himself, confessed that, although the man accused of kidnapping may have been part of its financing, the relationship between them is non-existent, mainly because he was a random contributor to appear in the credits.
What Was Fabian Marta Accused of?
Fabian Marta was arrested by the Metropolitan Police of Saint Louis, United States, for the crime of child abduction, according to Newsweek media reports. The official indictment was on July 21, while the arrest occurred on the 23rd of the same month. Marta was released on a $15,000 personal bond, although the originality of the complaint has not been disclosed.
