Psychopathic, crazy, ruthless. How to describe a serial killer? Although it could be simple, it is actually a complex task. We need to know why they began to to kill, what motivated them, and why they felt no remorse. The following series on Netflix address the issue from different perspectives and try to give us answers and show us the truth behind these dark characters that we find so fascinating and terrifying.
Mindhunter

Photo @mindhunterseries
Based on the book Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, this work follows different detectives who investigate cases of serial killers with the help of other criminals, who help them understand the modus operandi of the murderers, the way they think and the brutal way in which they plan their attacks. This series is disturbing because it takes us deep into the mind of the serial killer, showing us how twisted a human mind can get.
Slasher

@slasherseries
Following the style of slasher films, this Canadian series’ first season focuses on a figure called “The Executioner,” someone who has murdered multiple people in one town. It gained immediate recognition and was picked up by Netflix, and they have already produced a second, equally thrilling, season.
Marcella
@netflixmarcella
This series, instead of showing the mind of a murderer, shows how it can affect a detective who has been following him for years. Marcella is a woman who returns to work when it is rumored that a serial killer has started killing again, and although she seems to be far from catching him, she eventually realizes that he’s closer than she thought, and that she will have to get her life in order to be able to catch him.
Deep Water
A complex four-part work that focuses on the true story of 30 homosexual men who were murdered in the beaches and suburbs of Sydney, Australia, and the detectives who tried to solve the case. The series delves into the possible motives that the murderer had and narrates in a crude way the way he lured and brutally murdered them.
The Alienist
@bruhl_fass_news
This excellent series that mixes fact with fiction follows a team that investigates a serial killer who takes the lives of children on the streets of New York. Through encounters with different characters, the team discovers answers, not only about the murderer, but also his possible motivations, and the way in which his surroundings influenced his crimes. Starring Daniel Bruhl and Dakota Fanning, it has received recognition and is worth binge-watching it.
La Mante
@frederiquebel_
This strange and disturbing series follows a man who is investigating the case of a murderer who is using the same methods as a serial killer woman from the past who has already been arrested. That woman is her mother, and the only way she will work to help catch the new criminal is by working exclusively with her son, which leads to a complex network of repressed feelings, madness, and violence.
Bates Motel
@thebatesmotel
Bates Motel shows how a fragile and sensitive mind can disconnect and let a murderer invade it, taking control of his body. Norman doesn’t seem to realize the things he does, and as time goes by, his condition gets worse, until it completely separates fantasy from reality. Then, his mother is the strongest connection he has with the world, so what would happen if she were not by his side?
The Investigator: A British Crime Story
@netflix_a_la_carta
The second season of this series presented by Mark Williams-Thomas focuses on different murders that took place in England and could be linked to serial killers Peter Tobin and Angus Sinclair, who are locked in prison. It is a documentary series that delves into the minds of psychopaths and shows that, although many confess to their crimes, they could still hide other misdeeds.
Grab some popcorn, get comfortable, open Netflix, and hope that all those stories are behind the screen and that we are never victims of people like these monsters.
