Max has finally released the first trailer for ‘Dune: Prophecy,’ the new series in the successful and award-winning ‘Dune’ franchise, which was brought to the big screen by Denis Villeneuve.
This new superproduction will surely serve as a prelude while we wait for the third (and final) installment of this story to hit theaters.
If you still don’t know what ‘Dune’ is about, this film, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, follows the story of Paul Atreides, a young man who becomes the Duke of Dune, a desert planet infested with dangerous sandworms but highly valuable to the entire universe, as it is the only place where the ‘spice’ exists, a massive source of power that everyone covets.
However, Paul not only has to govern this entire planet, but he is also destined to become ‘Lisan Al-Gaib,’ a powerful figure who, according to the beliefs of the Fremen (the native people of Dune), will lead them to paradise, also known as ‘Kwisatz Haderach.’
What will ‘Dune: Prophecy’ be about?
‘Dune: Prophecy,’ will be the next major HBO Max series, serving as a prequel to everything we already know about the universe that Denis Villeneuve brought to the big screen.
In this story, we will learn much more about the Bene Gesserit, a kind of religion managed exclusively by women who can see the future and who have been weaving the royal lines of the most powerful families in the universe for millennia, all while searching for the next Kwisatz Haderach.
The series will be set 10,000 years before the story we already know and will pick up the events in the book ‘The Sisterhood of Dune,’ written by Frank Herbert.
In this series, we will follow a group of Bene Gesserit who will attempt to fulfill a single order: to destroy House Atreides and put House Harkonnen in power.
‘Dune: Prophecy’ will star Emily Watson (whom you might remember from HBO’s ‘Chernobyl’) and Shirley Henderson (who appeared in the magical ‘Harry Potter’ franchise)..
For now, there is no established release date for this series; however, it is likely to arrive in early 2025, taking the prime TV slot after the second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ concludes.
