Back to the #TeamEdward and #TeamJacob era, folks! The Twilight saga will also have its own small-screen version, with an all-new cast and produced by Lionsgate Television, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project is in the early stage of production, so there are not many details about it so far. It is known that screenwriter Sinead Daly, in charge of such products as The Walking Dead: World Beyond and The Get Down, would be attached to the series as lead writer.

Whether this new series will be a retelling of the main saga or an extension of it, as a spin-off to tell other stories of characters anchored to the story, is still being tossed around between Daly and Lionsgate executives. The author of the books that inspired the five-film franchise, Stephenie Meyer, is also expected to be part of this project as executive producer, as well as Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig, former co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, as he was in charge of buying the film rights for the production company Summit Entertainment.

Neither Lionsgate Television executives nor representatives have expanded on the series, which would revive the media phenomenon that began in 2008 and spawned the five-film franchise that collectively grossed more than $3.4 billion worldwide.

The Twilight saga follows a young high school student, Bella Swan, who leaves her sunny home in Arizona to move to the rainy town of Forks, Washington D.C., where she meets Edward, an enigmatic and handsome young man with whom she falls hopelessly in love. However, it seems that the relationship between the two would become an impossibility since he is a vampire over 100 years old, and fears that his world and the rest of the vampires that inhabit it may be too dangerous for her.

The film saga, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, ended in 2012 with the movie Breaking Dawn: Part 2; since then, the possibility of resuming its story either with new movies or with series that expand its universe has been considered. “There are a lot of stories to tell, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to put them together,” then Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer commented on the matter in 2017 to The Wall Street Journal, although no information on the matter had come to light until now.

What do you think about the return of Twilight to the entertainment world? Do you think it would actually be worth it without Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and the rest of the original cast?
