No one can deny Taylor Swift is one of the biggest music stars worldwide and has quick songwriting skills. The popstar gave Swifties a big suprise by revealing her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department, is actually a double album.
“It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.” Taylor wrote on social media.
So, after hearing some of the songs and analyzing the lyrics, people on social media started to review the album. Although of course, a lot of fans related to Taylor’s lyrics or even unravel the Matty Healy’s references in the album, many people think the album is Taylor’s biggest miss.
“Taylor certainly seems to write a lot of hits with jack—fortnight and the title track are destined to be huge—but over the course of a whole album his production for taylor has become washed out, repetitive and limp—despite a few new synth flourishes added to their audible pallet along the way” wrote an user called ‘music struggles & wins’ via X. Other people were more direct about it: “The only thing tortured was our ears”. Ouch!

Some people claimed the album sounded the same. We know Taylor has a visible style, but for this album, it looks like she focused more on the lyrics and its story, which could be a win for the swiftie fandom.

But the fact is that, according to Billboard, the album just became the ‘most streamed album in a single day in 2024 on Spotify’.
