Fame has never been as ephemeral as it is today. Every day, we see new talents reach their peak and vanish rapidly either because they’re just a one-hit wonder or because their actions end up dooming their potential. That’s the case with Mexican Urban musician Dani Flow, who after several comments, has been severely called out to the edge of cancellation.

Who Is Dani Flow?

Although Dani Flow has been in the independent industry for quite a while, it was just recently that his music went viral and reached the peak of popularity on streaming and social networks for his catchy tunes and often controversial lyrics.

Daniel Balladares, also known as Dani Flow and ‘el rey del morbo’ (The King of Morbidity), was born in Irapuato, Mexico. From a very early age, she showed interest in Reggaeton and rap and was determined to become a known character in the Urban music scene.

He wrote his first song at 10, and recorded his first hit, ‘Dándote placer,’ (‘Giving You Pleasure’) at 14; as the name indicates, it was already quite an explicit song about intercourse, one of his most recurrent subjects. For years, he participated in several freestyle battles until he gained recognition on social media, mainly on YouTube and TikTok.

Now, he’s one of the most streamed Mexican artists with very catchy songs and great collaborations. However, as the saying goes, what goes up must come down, and in this case, it was Dani Flow himself the one responsible for his doom.

Why Is Dani Flow Being Cancelled?

The rising reggaeton star recently appeared in a podcast called Carlygalleta. A video of the podcast rapidly went viral; in it, the singer decided to defend Mexican YouTuber Rix, who in 2021 was accused of abuse by a fellow content creator.

In the podcast, Dani Flow emphasized that he has been friends with Rix for some years, so he felt free to give his opinion on the subject. The comments of ‘the king of morbidity’ ended up causing the anger of thousands of people, who through social networks, canceled the singer and urged those who follow him to stop listening to him.

The “Reggaetón Champagne” singer downplayed Rix’s actions and strongly criticized the victim for continuing to maintain contact with Rix after the aggression. If that wasn’t enough, Dani Flow also insulted people at feminist marches who scratch walls and monuments, saying that those who do this should not even be considered women.

The Controversies Keep Piling Up

Besides the matter regarding his friend, who is serving a sentence in prison, Dani Flow gave even more disturbing statements on the said podcast, mainly about his daughter and minors. Netizens didn’t hesitate to even call him a pedophile.

He brought back one of his early lyrics in which he sings the following:

“Al chile en 15 años de esta rima me voy a arrepentir, pero la vida es de momentos y lo tengo que vivir. A mi hija, jamás la tocaría, pero a sus compañeritas de la secundaria tal vez sí.”

(“In 15 years of this rhyme I’m going to regret it, but life is made up of moments, and I have to live them. I would never touch my daughter, but maybe I would touch her high school classmates.”)

A Lame Apology Wont’ Stop the Cancelation

After the controversy, Dani Flow was forced to issue a public apology claiming he was sorry for everything, but he didn’t address the accusations of him being tempted to abuse his daughter’s classmates.

Through a live broadcast on social media, the so-called ‘king of morbidity’ apologized for his misogynistic comments, and asked to be heard before continuing to “attack” him (but it’s too late, he’s canceled). “What I ask people who are now on top of me is to listen to me. That’s the most humane thing they can do, to listen to me,” he began his speech.

Regarding what she said against feminism, she asked internet users to be understanding, as she is “very ignorant on the subject.” However, she said that it is a movement he would like to join because he has a daughter. He explained that what he does not like is that there are women who vandalize during the protests, and if he made these comments it was because he was very angry.

Finally, he thanked those who gave him the opportunity for one last speech and pointed out that he has no problem with those who still want to continue with the cancellation campaign; however, he pointed out that he prefers to give his real opinion rather than remain silent.

After his “hypocritical and mediocre” apology, as they consider on social networks, people demanded an explanation about what he said about his daughter’s classmates and asked him not to let people with this kind of mentality against women reach fame.
