Last night, Lizzo killed her flute solo at the BET Awards so hard, that even Rihanna gave her a standing ovation. The Detroit native was wearing a bridal leotard reminiscent of Madonna’s iconic “Like a Virgin” VMA outfit, and somehow managed to twerk as she played the flute during her performance of “Truth Hurts.” It was a beautiful thing that meant one thing for sure: if there was anyone who didn’t know who Lizzo was, now they know. Lizzo has been steadily rising to the top of the game since the release of her third studio album, “Cuz I Love You,” the cover of which shows her completely naked, glowing, and looking at us head-on like the boss that she is. And her fandom is only getting bigger thanks to her fun and bright personality that complements her empowering message perfectly.

She has outfits for days
Lizzo doesn’t do subtle. Her outfits are always bold, extravagant, and over the top. In fact, the white leotard she wore at the BETs is one of the tamest things we’ve ever seen her wear. Usually, she’s all about neon colors, big fluffy dresses, and see-through lingerie. She is never not ultra feminine, and her outfits are the kind that make you reconsider your entire wardrobe.
Her makeup game is next level
Lizzo is beautiful, and she looks gorgeous with or without makeup, but, as we’ve already established, she likes to look like a star 24/7, which is why her makeup is a key part of her looks. She loves colorful eyeshadow, a bold lip, and lots of highlighter, so ten times out of ten, she looks like she’s honest-to-god glowing from within, and she is; the makeup is only the finishing touch.
She is a body positivity icon
As a big, black woman, Lizzo is far from what society tells us a beautiful woman looks like. But fortunately for her, and us, she hasn’t let that negativity keep from seeing beauty in her blackness and her fullness, and her confidence shines in everything that she wears, says, and does. “No, I’m not a snack at all / Look, baby, I’m the whole damn meal.”
Her lyrics give us life
“I just took a DNA test / turns out I’m 100% that bitch.” As if we needed any more proof, Lizzo tells us herself: she is 100% that bitch, and her lyrics are a testament to self-love, growth, and knowing that we don’t need anyone to validate us. “You know you a star, you can touch the sky / I know that it’s hard but you have to try / If you need advice, let me simplify / If he don’t love you anymore / Just walk your fine ass out the door.”
