Through her Used To Be Young Series, Miley talked about the first song she wrote under her name and not around Hannah Montana, “See You Again,” which was part of her album Meet Miley Cyrus, released in 2007. The singer was at a stage where she wanted to tell her own stories in her lyrics and break away from the character that identified her for so many years.
Miley wrote “See You Again” under her own experiences; however, the label thought it wouldn’t be a hit. They even decided not to make a music video for it because they thought it would go to failure… but her fans decided otherwise.
“It’s clear that this song that I wrote for the ‘Meet Miley’ album, where I include my name, and I say ‘my best friend Leslie,’ really marked my beginning of telling my own stories for my fans. My record label at the time didn’t think the track would be a hit, so they didn’t make a music video for it. I wrote the song in a very personal way as Miley, so there would be no confusion between me and the character, but yes, the label told me the song wouldn’t be a hit… and my fans decided otherwise,” the singer revealed.
“See You Again” became a real hit and was the most acclaimed song during concerts, to date. The song marked a before and after in Miley and Hannah’s life, and even if it is her least favorite song, it detached her a bit from her past projects.
