Shakira shares a snippet of the final song dedicated to piqué, and it's a bittersweet pain

Shakira has invited us into truly significant moments of her life through her music, from the most beautiful to the most painful. Most recently was her separation from Piqué due to infidelity. We don’t rejoice in this, but we’re grateful for all the songs she inspired, as many of us found a connection through them. While we see her at the peak of success today, her heart is still healing. Fortunately, she’s determined to close those doors that were still ajar.

The Latest Song That Shakira Will Dedicate to Piqué

Her recent songs have been loaded with indirect references to her ex and all those who hurt her to the core, which is why her new album will feature the LAST track dedicated to whom she now calls “Voldemort” (referring to the Harry Potter villain that no one can or wants to mention). The Colombian singer revealed a snippet of this song that we’ll finally hear in full on March 22, 2024, along with all the others that make up “Women Don’t Cry Anymore.”

From the lyrics of “Última,” as this song will be called, it’s evident that Shakira is bidding a final farewell to what was once her great love, despite the disappointment and pain it caused her. “Última. A buen entendedor…”, (Last. For the discerning…,) wrote the Colombian in the description of her post, where she teased a snippet of a video featuring this single, which promises to be a beautiful ballad akin to those that characterized her career when it took flight.

“Se nos perdió el amor a mitad de camino. Cómo es que te cansaste de algo tan genuino. No trates de convencerme, te lo pido, que ya está decidido. Nos queda lo aprendido” (We lost love halfway. How did you tire of something so genuine? Don’t try to convince me, I ask you, it’s already decided. We’re left with what we’ve learned), she sings in this emotional ballad.

In an interview with The New York Times, the Colombian explained that this song provided the “closure” she so desperately needed in her new project, but also in her personal life.

“It’s a ballad. We had all the tracks finished, but I thought: ‘No, no, no, I can’t close this album. I’ll suffocate with this song. This is trapped here, it’s a cyst, I need to get it out.’ It’s the last song I plan to write about you-know-who, and the one that shouldn’t have a name: Voldemort,” she said.

It took seven years and a painful breakup for Shakira to release this new album that we’re dying to hear, as it promises to be that heartfelt embrace we all need, and of course, she’s more than excited.

“The production of this work has been an alchemical process. With each song I wrote, I rebuilt myself. When I sang them, my tears turned into diamonds and my vulnerability into resilience,” she noted.
