Another Super Bowl has passed, and thus another Halftime Show. This year it was Usher’s turn to thrill the world with a 15-minute performance of his greatest hits during a very long and successful career. Like every single performer who has had the honor to entertain the crowds, Usher didn’t do it alone, he had the help of many popular faces.
Usher truly made us go back to our teen years when we would hit the club in terrible double-shirted outfits and terrible heels while guys wore two matching polo shirts and skinny jeans. The moment he started playing “Caught Up”, our minds took us back to those times of bad decisions, and horrible fashion, but great music.
As mentioned, Usher gave us a star-studded show that started with the great Alicia Keys wearing a stunning red outfit and singing their classic “If I Ain’t Got You” and “My Boo.” Just like in the 2004 video, Alicia and Usher raised the temperature of the Allegiant Stadium with a sensual performance. But this was just the beginning!
For many, the great moment of the show was the appearances of Lil Jon and Ludacris giving us the iconic “Yeah!” This was the exact moment our knees and backs reminded us we were not teens anymore! The club smash came right before Lil Jon’s classic meme song “Turn Down for What.”
Usher also had the great H.E.R. coming to the stage to play “Risk it All,” which to be honest was our highlight of the Halftime show! Still, despite the great dances, the classic tunes, and the amazing guests, most people agree something was missing about what many thought was a very promising performance.
Yes, we all thought Justin Bieber was going to join Usher, and yes, that was a bit disappointing. However, we can all agree that considering what other performers have done in the past, this was really not that cool… For god’s sake, Lady Gaga jumped from the top of the stadium and a heavily pregnant Rihana danced on flying platforms! Great guests and taking off your shirt don’t meet Super Bowl’s levels…
Still, a great moment to take that journey through memory lane!
