Hollywood can’t seem to catch a break. Amid the controversy surrounding Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who faces accusations of abuse and other crimes, more allegations are surfacing against another industry figure already convicted of a similar situation to the producer.
Rapper R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2023 for possession of illegal child material and grooming minors for exploitation. His case draws parallels to the current situation Diddy is facing.
R. Kelly’s Daughter Accuses the Singer of Serious Misconduct When She Was a Minor
In this context, R. Kelly’s daughter, Buku Abi, has spoken out for the first time about the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her father when she was a child. In a recent documentary, the 26-year-old revealed that she was first abused as a very young girl and didn’t tell her mother until she was 10 years old in 2009.

While she doesn’t go into detail about her case, she states that prison is the right place for her father, who was convicted of crimes including trafficking, organized crime, and abuse against minors.
“For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person that he would do something to me,” Abi, identified as Joanne Kelly in the documentary, claims in the doc, before later divulging fear in her own household … “I was too scared to tell anybody. I was too scared to tell my mom.”
Hollywood in the Midst of Controversy Over Serious Allegations
Hollywood in the spotlight amid abuse allegations R. Kelly’s revelations come as new allegations are being made against Diddy, in what is being seen as another #MeToo moment in Hollywood. These accusations, along with the arrest and conviction of film producer Harvey Weinstein for similar abuses, highlight the industry’s reputation as a space where abuse against women and minors has been allowed to persist.
