We never thought we’d live to see this, but a new Shrek movie is more than ready from DreamWorks, and here’s everything we know about this new installment of the beloved character we all love.
Shrek 5 Has a Release Date
DreamWorks is so confident about the fifth installment of the cinema’s most beloved ogre that just a few minutes ago, they released the first look at the movie’s release date: Shrek and all his friends will return to the screen on July 1, 2026.

As you may recall, the second Puss in Boots movie ended with Puss and his friends heading to Far Far Away, leading to speculation that a third installment featuring the feline might be in development. However, to our surprise, it was the fifth Shrek movie that was announced just a few weeks ago.

Although plans for the fifth movie have been in the works since 2016, no details about the plot or the characters we will see on screen have been revealed yet. Many anticipate that this time we might see Shrek and Fiona’s children in action. What is confirmed is that the English voices of Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), and Eddie Murphy (Donkey) will be returning.
Additionally, Shrek’s Donkey will also have his movie. A few weeks ago, Eddie Murphy, the original voice of this character in English, talked about the upcoming projects he has lined up, including Shrek 5 and the solo Donkey movie:
“We started doing Shrek 5 about 4 or 5 months ago. I recorded the first act (…) Shrek is going to come out and Donkey will have his own movie. We’re also doing Donkey. So we’re going to do a Shrek and we’re going to do a Donkey [movie].”
This movie does not yet have a release date, but it is anticipated that it could arrive after the release of the fifth Shrek movie. However, there are no details about the plot or who will be involved.
