‘The Conjuring’ has become a billion-dollar franchise, but how much of it is real? The horror movie, which premiered in 2013, was inspired by the real-life experiences of the Perron family in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Here’s The Conjuring true story.

The film follows the story of Roger and Carolyn Perron who move into a farmhouse with their five daughters, only to be tormented by malicious spirits. Desperate for help, they call in paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who reveal that the spirit of an alleged witch named Bathsheba Sherman is behind the haunting.

The Conjuring true story is indeed based on Perron’s family terrifying events, although some details were dramatized for obvious purposes.

The Perrons lived in the farmhouse for ten years, enduring terrifying experiences that led them to seek help from the Warrens.

Andrea Perron, one of the daughters, has since written a book titled “House of Darkness House of Light,” which provides a more detailed account of their experiences.

“We all experienced encounters with spirits, some were unpleasant, some were lovely, cordial and communicative. From benign to benevolent to oblivious to mean-spirited, the spirits were just like us, a wide variety of personalities,” she told Global News in 2021.

Carolyn Perron and her daughters experienced full-body apparitions, strange noises, and the foul scent of rotting odors, all leading up to a terrifying séance conducted with the help of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

“My mother began to speak a language not of this world in a voice not her own,” she said. “Her chair levitated and she was thrown across the room.”

The Warrens reached out to the Perron family after hearing about their haunting from fellow paranormal researchers and offered to investigate.

The Perron family eventually left the house in 1980, and in 2021, Andrea shared during a luncheon how they came to that decision. “My mother told my father she couldn’t survive another winter there. She had endured 10 years of torment in that house,” she explained.

Where’s the Perron Family Now?

While the Perron family occasionally features in specials and documentaries about their haunted house experience, most of them now lead quieter lives, away from the public eye, specially after The Conjuring release.

Andrea remains deeply engaged in the supernatural field and has made appearances on various paranormal shows since The Conjuring, including Ghost Adventures (2019) and Mysteries Decoded (2019).

In 2021, she, along with her sister Nancy and father Roger, participated in an interactive live-stream event. During this event, the trio returned to their former Rhode Island home, hoping to reconnect with the spirits that once haunted them. Meanwhile, sisters Cindy and Christine, along with their mother Carolyn, joined the event virtually by streaming from their homes.
