Is there anything she doesn’t do well? Oscar-nominated actress and director Anna Kendrick has announced that she will be donating her entire salary from her directorial debut, “Woman of the Hour,” to charity.

The film, which tells the true story of a woman who appeared on a 1970s dating show and was paired with notorious serial killer Rodney Alcala, was recently released on Netflix.

Directed by and starring Anna Kendrick (also known for her Twilight and Pitch Perfect roles), the film follows Cheryl Bradshaw, an aspiring actress who, in the 1970s, participated in a dating show unaware that one of the contestants, Rodney Alcala, would go on to be remembered as one of the most notorious serial killers in the U.S.

Kendrick revealed in an interview that she felt conflicted about profiting from a film based on such a grim true story. “I felt gross about the thought of making financial gains for my work on this film,” she said.

“The story behind ‘Woman of the Hour’ is deeply unsettling, and the real-life victims suffered tremendously. It just didn’t feel right to make money from it.”

Due to all of these emotions, Anna Kendrick decided to donate her earnings to two charities: RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and the National Center for Victims of Crime. RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, providing support to survivors and working to prevent sexual violence.

The National Center for Victims of Crime advocates for victims’ rights and helps provide resources for crime victims.

Kendrick’s decision has been widely praised, with many commending her for using her platform to support important causes. Her selfless act is a testament to her commitment to making a positive impact and raising awareness about issues of sexual violence and victim support.

“I wanted to ensure that the attention this film brings could translate into meaningful support for those who need it most,” she explained.

Her donation will help fund RAINN‘s victim services programs, which include the National Sexual Assault Hotline, and support the National Center for Victims of Crime’s efforts to provide comprehensive services to victims of various crimes.

These donations are expected to make a significant impact, helping both organizations to continue their crucial work.
