US Secret Service agents protecting President Joe Biden’s granddaughter opened fire after three people tried to break into an unmarked Secret Service vehicle in Washington, D.C. The officers, assigned to protect Naomi Biden, were with her in the Georgetown neighborhood Sunday night when they saw the three people breaking a window of the parked, unoccupied SUV.
What happened to Joe Biden’s granddaughter?
One of the agents opened fire, but no one was hit or injured by the gunfire, the Secret Service said in a statement. The three people were seen fleeing in a red car, and the Secret Service said it issued a regional bulletin to the Metropolitan Police to be on the lookout.
“On November 12 at around 11:58 p.m. “In the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC, Secret Service agents encountered possibly three individuals breaking a window of a parked, unoccupied government vehicle,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in an official statement.
“During this encounter, a federal agent fired a service weapon and it is believed that no one was hit. The offenders immediately fled the scene in a red vehicle and a regional alert was issued to support units,” and that there was “no threat” to any of the Secret Service protectees.
This 2023, Washington D.C. has experienced a significant increase in the number of car thefts and assaults. Police have reported more than 700 car thefts this year and more than 5,000 reports of stolen vehicles in the district. Texas legislator Henry Cuellar was the victim of a carjacking near the Capitol last month by three armed assailants, who stole his car but did not cause him physical harm.
Who is Naomi Biden?
