But the reasons why she can’t see now are almost unbelievable and leave all women with a shocking doubt about the use of birth control pills.

In a recent video Chelsey explained how it was that according to her experience, she went blind after being forced to take birth control pills.

“The synthetic hormones caused pseudo tumor cerebri, a build up of cerebrospinal fluid that squished my optic nerves to death. I will never see again,” she stated on the video.

Nowadays, Chelsey has two adorable little children.

She also expressed some of the early symptoms she had before getting blind:

“I started getting massive headaches. My PCP (primary care physician) told me it was just stress and I tried to get a massage. The pain continued and my vision started to blur,” she said.

She also claimed that it was supposedly because of the birth control pills that she ended up blind, so she would spend the rest of her life telling her story to stop it.

Can Birth Control Pills Actually Make You Blind?

Birth control pills are a widely used method of contraception, but like any medication, they come with potential side effects. While blindness is not a known direct consequence of taking birth control pills, there are some ways in which these hormonal contraceptives can impact vision.

Birth control pills contain synthetic hormones, usually a combination of estrogen and progestin, which can cause various changes in the body.

These hormonal fluctuations can sometimes affect the eyes in the following ways:

Dry Eyes: Hormonal changes can reduce tear production, leading to dry eyes. This condition can cause discomfort and blurry vision.

Corneal Changes: The cornea, the clear front part of the eye, can change in thickness due to hormonal influences. This can affect how contact lenses fit and may cause temporary vision changes.

Blurry Vision: Some women may experience blurry vision as a side effect of birth control pills. This is usually temporary and resolves once the body adjusts to the hormones or the pills are discontinued.

While these vision changes are generally mild and temporary, it’s important to monitor any significant or persistent changes in vision. If you experience severe vision problems, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out any serious underlying conditions.
