Delta Flight 2809 from Minneapolis touched down at San Francisco International Airport just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. Passengers were reaching for their bags when chaos erupted: a team of roughly ten armed officers pushed their way down the aisle, stormed the cockpit, and emerged moments later with the copilot in handcuffs.
“I don’t know if this person was disappearing before our eyes, if there had been a crime committed, or what exactly was happening,” said Sarah Christianson, a first-class passenger who described the scene as “traumatic to watch.”
The copilot—whose name has not been released—was arrested on charges related to child sexual abuse materials, according to reports from Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin. Agents from multiple agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, carried out the arrest under a warrant.
Footage published by aviation blog A View From the Wing shows agents boarding the plane, some in plainclothes, others in vests marked with federal insignia.
“They barged through and stormed the cockpit,” Christianson told The San Francisco Chronicle. “They removed the co-pilot, cuffed him, arrested him, and brought him back down the aisle to deplane.”

Even the captain seemed caught off guard. Passengers say he reassured them that the landing was safe but admitted he had no idea what was going on. Officers remained on board afterward, reportedly collecting the arrested pilot’s belongings.
For those on the flight, the surreal turn of events lingered long after they deplaned.
“It was scary. It was traumatic,” Christianson said. “As soon as my husband picked me up from baggage claim, I jumped in the car and cried.”

Delta Airlines referred inquiries to law enforcement, while Homeland Security and the TSA pointed reporters to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which has not yet commented on the case.
