Venice’s World-Famous Canals Have Dried Up Almost Completely

There are multiple factors that cause low tides, but climate change and rising sea levels are at the top, although there is one more factor that might be the biggest culprit behind these sad vistas.

“According to astronomical history, the moon attracts all water from the other side, but there is no wind to raise the tides. But this is always a continuous cycle. Every year there are low tides, low low low ones and high high high ones, it is normal.”

According to Gianni, a resident of the Floating City, it’s normal for the sea level to go down due to the lunar cycle, but this doesn’t mean that the low tides aren’t a problem for the local residents.

“It’s a big problem. Especially for motorboats, transport boats because everything gets stuck. You can find anything in the canals: garbage, rubber boots, bags, mattresses, you can find anything. Years ago everyone threw things in the water.”

Although this drought is due in part to the lunar cycle, humanity can’t ignore that we too are responsible for our damage to the environment.

At this rate, in a few years, there will be no need for gondolas in our beloved Venice.
