After achieving the best result of her life, Olympic mountain bike judges fined Haley Batten for breaking a rule on the final lap of Sunday’s race. This incident occurred despite her winning the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

During the intense competition, Batten was jockeying for second place with Sweden’s Jenny Rissveds, well behind eventual champion Pauline Ferrand-Prevot. However, she inadvertently went through a lane designated for food and drink or mechanical problems, violating race rules. The judges reviewed the footage and decided that Batten’s infraction didn’t warrant disqualification but merited a fine.

“I’m one of the best athletes in the world, and I know I’m the best I’ve ever been, so for me, the preparation has been in the details. Steady building every single year, one step at a time,” said Batten.
