The 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, celebrated his 100th birthday with his family, and while reaching such a milestone is undeniably remarkable, many people were struck by Carter’s frail appearance and the fact that he was seen in a wheelchair.

“Not everyone reaches 100 in this world, and when someone does and uses that time to do so much good for so many, it deserves to be celebrated,” said his grandson, Jason Carter, who is also the board chair of the Carter Center.
This marks the first time an American president has lived to be 100, adding yet another milestone to a life that began as the son of a Depression-era farmer and led to global influence.
“These last 19 months, during which he’s been receiving palliative care, have given our family time to reflect,” Jason added. “It’s also given the country and the world an opportunity to reflect on his legacy. It’s been a deeply rewarding time for us.”
James Earl Carter Jr. was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. From growing up as a peanut farmer’s son, he became a world-renowned statesman. In his later years, Carter has survived brain cancer, a hip fracture, and now, he’s made it through more than 19 months in palliative care.

However, some on social media expressed concerns about sharing such personal images of Carter in his current state. One Twitter user commented, “I understand President Carter is a beloved public figure, but I question why he would be shown to the world like this. When my mom was in hospice care, we didn’t let anyone see her to preserve her dignity.”
Others had a different perspective. “He hasn’t lost his dignity. He’s one of our beloved Presidents, a service member, and a hero. No one will view this and think less of him because he’s ill and 100 years old. Tens of millions just want to wish him a happy birthday,” another user responded.
Many are criticizing the media for portraying Jimmy Carter during such an intimate moment, while others are simply amazed by his resilience and the endurance of the human body. What do you think?
