On Monday, things weren’t looking great for Democratic candidates that hadn’t confirmed their attendance to town halls and presidential forums on LGBT+ issues. Out of the 24 candidates running for President, only Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Julián Castro, Amy Klobuchar, and Elizabeth Warren had confirmed their presence at the forum hosted by GLAAD. But now, the forum is quickly being RSVP-ed by Joe Sestak, Marianne Williamson, and Kamala Harris, a long supporter of LGBT+ causes.
@glaadThis is the first time that such a forum, with the specific aim of addressing LGBT+ issues, is being held. The event will take place in Iowa on September 20, and will be presented by The Advocate magazine with the statewide LGBT+ advocacy group One Iowa.
“I’m proud to have fought alongside the LGBT+ community my whole career, from marrying couples at San Francisco City Hall in 2004 to fighting against Trump’s discriminatory transgender military ban in the Senate,” Harris told Out magazine in an email. “I’m thrilled to have the chance to speak directly to the pressing issues facing the LGBTQ community and I’m looking forward to being back in Cedar Rapids.”
@glaadAny of the other candidates are eligible to join this forum, but those who haven’t confirmed their attendance include Bill de Blasio, John Delaney, Steve Bullock, Beto O’Rourke, Tim Ryan, Bernie Sanders, and Andrew Yang.
There’s also a town hall hosted by CNN to be held on October 10. However, candidates who were polling under two percent had been excluded, which meant no more embarrassing burns for John Delaney, and no more forgettable soundbites by Tim Ryan, either. We’re still waiting on O’Rourke, Sanders, and Yang to join the GLAAD Forum.
