A magnitude 4.6 earthquake rattled the region just minutes ago, causing mild concern among residents across the Greater Los Angeles and Inland Empire areas.

What Happened

  • At approximately 9:32 a.m. PDT on July 31, 2025, a magnitude 4.6 quake occurred 6.9 km (about 4 miles) north of Fontana, California, also located under a mile from Rialto and a few miles from San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga.
  • The quake originated at a depth of approximately 3.3 miles (5.3 km), making the shaking more noticeable at the surface.
  • Earlier in the morning, another smaller tremor of magnitude 2.8 struck about 6 km northwest of Rialto, just minutes before the larger event.Earthquake now - magnitude 4. 6 earthquake strikes california this morning

Where It Was Felt

Residents across Fontana, Rialto, San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, and surrounding communities reported feeling noticeable shaking. Many took to social media to share their experiences, though there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

While earthquakes of this size are not uncommon in this tectonically active region— The I.E  typically experiences several small quakes each month—a magnitude 4.6 is among the strongest local temblors in recent months. Over the past week, this ranks as the most significant seismic event recorded nearby.
