Washington, D.C. — In a bizarre and widely shared video, Sean Charles Dunn, 37, a former Department of Justice employee, has been arrested and charged with felony assault after throwing a wrapped Subway sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.
Details of the Sandwich Incident
The confrontation unfolded late Sunday night on 14th Street NW, where a visibly agitated Dunn approached a group of federal officers. He reportedly yelled, “Fuck you! You fucking fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” just inches from an agent’s face, according to a criminal complaint. Moments later, he threw the improvised projectile, striking the officer in the chest. The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral. Dunn was apprehended shortly afterward and, as he was being processed, allegedly admitted, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”
Immediate Consequences and Federal Response
Attorney General Pam Bondi swiftly confirmed that Dunn had been terminated from his position within the DOJ’s criminal division. She defended the firing on social media:
“If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you… Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony.”
She added,
“This is an example of the Deep State… You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro echoed that sentiment, warning that law enforcement officers are not to be disrespected. In a show of support, she declared,
“We’re going to back the police to the hilt. So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”
She emphasized that the charge—assault on a federal officer—carries severe legal repercussions.
The incident took place amidst a broader federal law enforcement surge in Washington, D.C., initiated by President Trump to address rising crime—notwithstanding data showing a recent decline in violent incidents. The deployment included agents from agencies like the FBI, DEA, DHS, as well as the National Guard.
