The man who went viral in 2015 for a dress worn by his wife, which subsequently was said to have ‘broken the internet’ by dividing people as they tried to guess the color of the garment, pleaded guilty to attacking his wife, as reported by People magazine.
Keir Johnston and his wife, Grace, became known worldwide when the bride’s mother wore the peculiar dress that divided everyone in 2015. However, almost a decade after the internet questioned whether the dress was black and blue or white and gold, the man was sent to prison after admitting to attempting to strangle his wife.
According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Keir was charged after immobilizing his wife against the floor and straddling her during an assault on March 6, 2022.
Official information confirms that the man repeatedly placed his hands around Grace’s neck, restricting her breathing. He also threatened her with a knife.
“Someone is going to die,” the man said during the attack as heard at the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Scotland, on Thursday, May 9, according to UK media outlets.
The woman called for help and said “My husband is trying to kill me,“.
Meanwhile, Crown prosecutor Chris Macintosh told Lady Drummond that Grace “felt trapped” as the couple lived on the remote Scottish island of Colonsay.
Grace went against Keir’s stance by attending a job interview on the mainland before the attack occurred, after her husband had been drinking in a pub, several media outlets reported.

“Johnston woke up and said he was going to leave her. He left the property to stop her from leaving. He followed her and pinned her down on the ground. He put both knees on her arms so she couldn’t move. Then he began to strangle her with both hands,” the prosecutor detailed.
The woman feared for her life and even thought her husband would kill her.
The assault was stopped thanks to the intervention of a witness; the man entered but then left and threatened to “finish” his wife before strangling her, The Times reported.
The Scottish husband behind the infamous “dress that broke the internet” admitted to strangling his wife, nearly a year after he was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The man was holding a knife and was later found under a desk with the knife still in his hands. At one point, the man put the weapon to his throat and threatened himself before the weapon was eventually taken away from him.
“You strangled her, injured her, and endangered her life repeatedly in what must have been absolutely terrifying circumstances for her,” the judge told the man.
“I fear, Mr. Johnston, that your circumstances have changed: you have been convicted of a very serious offense and, in the meantime, will remain in custody”.
Johnston was denied bail will remand in custody until his sentencing.
