Oliver Larkin Explains Why He Used a Shocking Label for Donald Trump During Fox Interview

Oliver Larkin spent years writing the emails that kept Democratic campaigns funded — and now he’s explaining exactly how that machine works. The progressive congressional candidate running in Florida’s 25th District and former Bernie Sanders 2026 campaign strategist described in a recent interview how digital fundraising has been captured by manufactured outrage, with subject lines invoking Trump and the Epstein files designed not to inform, but to trigger an immediate donation.

The Email Nobody Was Supposed to Say Out Loud

Larkin didn’t hedge. In a May 2026 profile in The American Prospect, he described the inner logic of rapid-response fundraising copy with unusual bluntness: strategists craft subject lines like “Pedophile president decides he doesn’t like the front page news, so he decides to take us into another war” — intentionally provocative, emotionally raw, engineered to convert public anger into a donation click before the news cycle moves on. He framed it not as a fringe tactic but as standard practice inside Democratic digital operations.

That context matters: Larkin didn’t write this as an outsider critic. He wrote those emails. He worked on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign and crafted fundraising copy for figures including Adam Schiff. When he says the machine runs on an “insatiable beast” of outrage, he is describing something he fed. That’s what makes his account hard to dismiss and equally hard to celebrate — it’s the kind of inside look at Democratic fundraising tactics that neither party wants circulating before a primary.

Running Against the Machine He Helped Build

Larkin is now channeling that disillusionment into a left-wing primary challenge against incumbent Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz in South Florida. He has positioned himself as explicitly anti-establishment — critical of mainstream Democratic fundraising norms, party foreign policy stances, and the financial incentives that shape how campaigns communicate with donors.

His candidacy is built on the uncomfortable premise that the party’s messaging problem isn’t incidental — it’s structural. When outrage is the revenue model, de-escalation becomes a financial risk. Larkin’s argument, made from the inside, is that Democratic campaigns are not simply reacting to a chaotic news environment; they are, in part, manufacturing the emotional response that news cycles require. Whether Florida’s 25th District primary voters find that honest or disqualifying is the real test.
