Caso paloma nicole y lo que se sabe de la madre y el cirujano

The case of Paloma Nicole Arellano, a teenage girl who died after undergoing a cosmetic procedure in Durango, Mexico,  is one of those stories that forces society to confront what it means to grow up in a world where aesthetic pressure begins earlier and earlier—while adults fail to protect the children they should be caring for.

Paloma died on September 20 at Clínica Santa María after suffering severe complications: a cardiorespiratory arrest, brain swelling, and a chain of medical emergencies her body could not withstand. The most shocking part is that, according to her father’s complaint, she was subjected to a breast augmentation surgery—and possibly more procedures—without her consent, with her mother’s approval, and in complicity with the doctor, who allegedly was her mother’s partner.

Her Father’s Devastating Testimony

Paloma’s father says her mother lied, telling him she would take their daughter to the mountains because she had tested positive for COVID-19 at school. The truth was much darker: Paloma, only 14 and still in full development, was about to undergo an aesthetic surgery meant for adults, with huge risks and consequences no one seemed to take seriously.

Days later, when the father was notified that his daughter was in critical condition at the hospital, he discovered that the situation was far worse than he could have imagined. During the funeral, as he examined his daughter’s body, he found clear evidence of the surgery: breast implants, scars, and a surgical bra confirming what had never been disclosed to him.

Initial reports suggest that the surgery was an “early gift” for her 15th birthday, which she would have celebrated in 2026. A gift born out of the cruelest form of aesthetic pressure: the idea that changing a young girl’s body was more valuable than protecting her life.

Demands for Justice

Paloma’s father has already filed a complaint against all those responsible: her mother, the surgeon Víctor (her mother’s partner and a certified doctor), the clinic, and its administrators. His demand is simple yet urgent: justice.

Adding to the outrage, the death certificate initially stated that Paloma had died from an “illness”—a cover-up attempt, according to her father, meant to erase the evidence of what happened in the operating room. Only after the autopsy was it confirmed that the fatal complications were the direct result of cosmetic surgery.

Although health authorities later confirmed that the surgeon was certified and the clinic had valid permits, one central question remains:
How could anyone allow a minor to undergo such a procedure?
