Looking ahead to the United States presidential elections, much has been said about the work plans of candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden. But what is Project 2025?
What is the Republican Party’s Project 2025 about?
Presidential Transition Project or Project 2025, is a collection of conservative policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation to reshape the United States federal government in case of a Republican Party victory in the November 2024 presidential election.
This issue has become very controversial due to its content, which proposes extreme right-wing changes that could violate human rights. Some of these proposals included in Project 2025 are:
- Efforts to lower prescription drug costs will stop.
- Access to food assistance will stop. Monthly, an average of more than 40 million people in 21.6 million households depend on it.
- The Head Start early education program, which serves more than 1 million children annually, will be eliminated.
- Access to medical abortion will be restricted.
- Push more of the 33 million people enrolled in Medicare toward Medicare Advantage and other private options.
- Exposing the 368,000 children in foster care to the risk of further discrimination.
- Access to student loans will be denied in 25 states and Washington, D.C. because each state provides in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants.
- Programs related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and LGBTQ+ rights in healthcare, education and workplaces will be cut.
