A striking and provocative statue depicting Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein holding hands has spontaneously appeared on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The 12-foot tall work—constructed from foam, resin, wood and wire—portrays the two standing on pedestals, smiling at each other, as if about to walk hand in hand toward the Washington Monument.

Underneath the statue are three plaques. Two of them display excerpts from a “bawdy birthday letter” that Trump allegedly wrote to Epstein for Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th birthday—a letter featuring a crude hand-drawn figure of a naked woman and what is reported to be Trump’s signature. Trump has denied writing or signing the letter, and has filed a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal— which first published its contents—claiming no authentic letter or drawing exists.
Where Did this Trump-Epstein Statue Come From?
The statue was installed in the early morning hours by an anonymous group calling themselves The Secret Handshake, fewer than five people involved. According to them, it is intended to remain on the Mall through Saturday, in honor of “Friendship Month.” The statue is meant to “celebrate the friendship of these real men.”
The piece draws attention to the controversial history between Trump and Epstein. The article notes that the two were photographed together in the 1990s and early 2000s—such as at Trump’s 1993 wedding to Marla Maples. Over time, their relationship deteriorated; after Epstein’s sex-trafficking charges in 2019, Trump claimed he had not spoken to Epstein in 15 years, and later alleged Epstein had “stolen” young female employees from his club. More recently, Trump has publicly referred to Epstein as a “creep.”

The White House responded to the statue with criticism. A spokesperson dismissed it, saying that liberals are free to spend money as they like, and argued it was not news that Trump knew Epstein, since Trump “kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep.” The statement accused Democrats, the media, and those behind the statue of long knowing about Epstein’s victims but doing nothing.
The unveiling of the statue comes amid continued public scrutiny of the Trump administration’s treatment of the so-called “Epstein files.” There has been pressure from survivors, members of Congress, and even some of Trump’s political base to increase transparency. The Justice Department recently released tens of thousands of Epstein-related documents—though lawmakers noted many were already publicly available. Some survivors are working to compile their own list of individuals allegedly connected to Epstein.
