It’s not news that Hollywood is constantly changing, and with the passing of time, things are getting much more diverse, shattering the notion of Hollywood being an unattainable, golden sphere. One proof of that is the recently announced Oscar nominees, not only in terms of actors and actresses, but also in the movies contending to win a statuette. This change was the main focus for Vanity Fair’s 25th issue celebrating the “game changers, newcomers, role models, and rule breakers” that are making history not only in Hollywood, but in film history, in general.

With the unique faces of stars like Rami Malek, Yalitza Aparicio, Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, Regina King, and Henry Golding, this issue contrasts the splendor and glamour of Golden Age Hollywood with the brilliance and rebelliousness of these new actors who are breaking traditional moulds. And what a better way to do this than through the lens of one of the best cinematographers in the industry and one who has shattered many moulds himself. I’m talking about none other than three-time Academy Award-winning Emmanuel “el Chivo” Lubezki (Birdman, Gravity, and The Revenant).

The photoshoot is not your average celebrity photoshoot because it was envisioned as a photographic story in movement, shot at the emblematic Los Angeles Theatre, where some of the most iconic actors have made history. Giving the illusion of a grand, classic Hollywood party, these new actors and actresses posed, showing the importance and power of their personas in the industry’s present.

All of these figures are definitely changing our perceptions what Hollywood stars look like, with regards to age, race, upbringing, and career choices. With people like Yalitza Aparicio, the very first indigenous woman to be nominated for an Oscar ever (not to mention she’s only the second Mexican to be nominated for Best Actress), and Rami Malek, an Egyptian-American actor whose latest jobs have positioned him as one of the finest of his generation, as well as the young Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, we can definitely see that the old ways of Hollywood’s machinery are being modernized and opened for diversity.

So, without further ado, here are the gorgeous pictures illustrating this issue and that will definitely become part of the iconic imagery of our times.
