Bedbugs have been taking over the world little by little, and it seems that not only Mexico has a big problem with this pest, but also Paris and its iconic Fashion Week. Yes, just as you read it, according to the report of several French media, Paris Fashion Week could have been invaded by nothing more and nothing less than an elusive plague of bedbugs.
Although it may seem like a joke, these little insects could have literally snuck into one of the most chic, elegant, and glamorous fashion events in the world. During an interview for the portal TMZ, Jim Fredericks, vice president of Public Affairs for the National Pest Control Association, warned that, given the sudden outbreak of these insects in the city of lights, the possibility that Fashion Week attendees could take the pest with them in their luggage is real.
“They are very capable hitchhikers, so the possibility of an infested trip on the plane from Paris remains high,” he said. For that reason, he urged celebrities attending Fashion Week to carefully check their luggage, clothing, and all their belongings before setting off on the return trip to their country of residence.
Fredericks also recommended that people visiting Paris in the next few days keep their luggage out of hotel rooms during their stay and wash and dry all clothing at a high temperature.
What Are Bedbugs?
Bedbugs are small, flattened, brown insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. Adult bedbugs can grow to about half a centimeter in size, are oval and brown in color, and can sometimes be mistaken for ticks or cockroaches.
How Do I Know If I Have a Bedbug Plagye at Home?
If you wake up one day and notice linear bites, it is important to check, first of all, the bed, which is one of their favorite places to hide and reproduce. Look for blood stains on sheets or mattresses, dark droppings (that look like tiny black dots) between mattress folds, corners, etc., and pay attention to the characteristic sweet, musty odor they emit.
If you find signs that could confirm that you have a bed bug problem in your home, contact a certified exterminator immediately.
