This year there are some very interesting things happening for hairstyling, haircuts and hair coloring. Anything goes.
Could it be the live action of The Little Mermaid? Or maybe the end of the pandemic? Could it possibly be the nostalgia for the 2000s? It’s possible that all these things have us here, pondering the possibility of a radical change with fantasy hair colors.
What Is Fantasy Hair Color?
Fantasy hair colors are those that do not mimic the natural tones of the hair, but transform the hair in colors that, let’s say, would only be possible in a fantasy world, such as pink, purple, blue, green, amongst others.
To get them, it is necessary to bleach your hair and, depending on how dark you wear your hair, it may take more than one session plus several hours. Consider that the brighter and more saturated you want the color, the lighter (and bleached) your hair should be.
Taking care of it is crucial and if you do it right, your hair will undergo little to no damage. Also keep in mind that fantasy hair dyes come in many trendy options and if you don’t want to compromise your hair’s health too much, you can opt for colored strands or ends. It’s totally valid.

How to Take Care of Your New Fantasy Hair Color?
Now that you are inspired, you should know what are the most basic cares to maintain the fantasy and the healthy look of your great hair.
- Wash your hair less frequently: The more you wash it, the faster the color will fade; it’s best to wash it only two or three times a week. Keep it clean with dry shampoo.
- If you can’t stand it, go straight to conditioner: If you need to wash it more, skip the shampoo and just use conditioner, this will add softness, shine and nourishment to your hair without brutally washing it out.
- Choose the right shampoo: it’s important to use one that protects the color and your hair. Regardless of the brand, whatever you do, pick one that is low in sulfates.
- Always use heat protection: if you blow dry, flat iron or curl your hair, always use heat protection to minimize the risk of damage.
- Use masks: conditioner is a must and masks are almost as important. You need to give yourself time and use hair masks for 5 to 10 minutes twice a week, this helps repair damage, increase shine and, naturally, keep that strong color for longer.
- Avoid swimming pools: chlorine can not only change your color, but it can also accelerate fading. If you go swimming, prep and condition your hair beforehand. Apply a layer of conditioner to your hair and twist it into a bun to form a protective barrier against chemical damage.
In these cases, no amount of care is too little. If you do change your look, share your experience with me; on Instagram you can find me as @lasenoritacora.
