How cringey is it to see pictures from the early 2000s and realize we dressed so horribly?! Honestly, that combo of mini-skirt with pants? Hideous! We see these trends now and thank heavens they died for good (or so I hope), but the truth is we’re no better now. With so many crazy trends catching on every day on social media, we’re actually following ideas that are beyond logic, and they’re not even fashionable.
You won’t have to scroll that much to find an influencer or a celebrity wearing something extremely random that in a matter of days (if not hours) will become a trend everybody will be following. But are they actually flattering? That is the question. The answer is usually no, and, more importantly, it’s quite possible that you’ll look at your feed in a couple of years and feel the same way you feel now about the mini-skirts and pants.
Among the many really ugly trends we’re following these days, these are probably the worst of them all.
Leggings

Leggings have been around for a while, which doesn’t seem like a good reason for them to be. This is the rule: unless you’re doing sports, don’t wear leggings. They don’t look good, they tend to be quite unflattering, and they can certainly cheapen a good outfit. Let’s just let them become bad memory.
Mullet skirts

Asymmetrical pieces can be very fashionable and flattering, since they can create really interesting silhouettes on the body. However, for it to look good, the asymmetry must be placed strategically. Mullet skirts (which are making a comeback) are not the case. On the contrary, this cut most likely will make you look shorter and wider. Just nope.
Tracksuits

Celebrities like Rosalía, Hailey Baldwin, Kylie Jenner, and many more have been wearing these famous suits for a while, sparking a huge craze in stores with people trying to follow the trend without realizing that they end up looking like a creepy elementary school P.E teacher. They might look cool on photos, but seriously, stop. In real life, they don’t look cool.
Belt bags

In this nostalgic and kind of immature tendency to go back to the nineties in every aspect of our life, some fashion extravagancies made their way back, and it was just a matter of time before belt bags, also known as fanny packs, became a hit again. The thing is, practicality aside, do we really need them as fashion accessories? No, much less that trend of wearing them on the shoulder.
Bucket hats

I don’t know who had the great idea to bring these back, but they should’ve stayed back where no one could get them. Besides the fact that they are actually kind of hideous, they’re not flattering on anyone and they will ruin even the nicest outfits. So, unless you’re going fishing with your great-grand-uncles, it’s best not to wear them.
Lycra bike shorts

The Kardashians (pretty much Kim K) made these a thing along with her husband Kanye. I get it, minimalistic style meets athleisure and casual fashion is very Yeezy, but like with leggings, unless you’re a biker, you should really leave these pieces out of your closet. Oh, and these paired with sweats, are just a no-no. Just stop already!
Sock shoes

Speaking of Yeezy, we really have to discuss this sock footwear trend. Do you realize you’re paying hundreds of dollars to get socks with soles? They’re sold in all formats, as boots, sneakers, and so on, but the truth is they end up being just a random design I don’t see becoming a classic, since they’re not that wearable in real life.
Clear accessories

This trend of making everything plastic, like in the good days of yore (aka the nineties), has also taken the fashion market by storm, once again. However, the more you see it, the more ridiculous it gets. Clear plastic shoes where people can see how your toes being massacred by the shoe (not to mention how sweaty it must be to wear them for more than a couple of hours), or see-through clear purses that reveal everything you’re carrying with you that are basically just a “rob me” sign. Plus, it really doesn’t look nice; seriously.
The lesson here is this. Just because everyone on social media is wearing something that might look good in pictures, it doesn’t mean it will look that great in real life. Take into account that these people wear this stuff for what, the couple of minutes it takes to take the picture? Most of these trends aren’t wearable and, thus, not as comfortable as they seem, and for that reason, I could bet a thousand dollars they will become our eighties mullets and our, well, basically all the trends from the 2000s.
