There’s no doubt that one of the biggest trends these days is neon everything. From full outfits in those dazzling hues to just a hint of color, neon is one of those trends that can really make your outfit stand from others. Naturally, it’s also quite difficult to fully embrace it in a fashionable and cute way, especially when it’s so easy to go too far. But don’t worry, there are simple ways to try this bright and showy trend without risking your fashionable reputation, and nails are definitely a great way to do it.
These ideas aren’t just mesmerizing; most of them are quite easy to do, so you won’t have to pay tons of money to add these dazzling colors to your mani.
Nude + Neon
One easy way to embrace neon without going too far is by mixing them with a neutral shade to create some contrast. Naturally, nude colors can be perfect not only to contrast the neon, but also to create some balance with your skin color. There are tons of designs that follow this composition, so you can add as much or as little color as you desire.
Subtle
While the nude/neon combo is already subtle, you can always make it less showy. A few dots on your neutral base, making a very thin tip line with neon color, or adding some lines can create a very interesting and sophisticated design that can go with basically any outfit and style.
Neon outline
The best part of outline designs is that they can go from really subtle strokes on the edges of the nails to really intricate designs; it all depends on how crazy or how subtle you want your nails to look. You can mix neon colors to outline the nail, add some strokes on the tips and right next to the cuticle or even add a base color to create a cartoon-like effect.
Gradient
Gradient nails have been super trendy in the past few years and what a better way to embrace than by adding a pop of color and light with neon hues. Gradient nails might look intimidating, especially to do them yourself, but they’re actually quite easy to achieve. You’ll just need a basic makeup sponge (those triangular ones that they sell by the bag at thrift stores are perfect) and a white base for a brighter effect. Sponge up the colors and press them on the nail like a stamp. Pat it until you reach the shade you want, add a clear topcoat, and you’ll be ready to rock.
French tips
French tips can look quite sophisticated, but we’re not in the late 90s, early 2000s, so ditch the boring white tips and add some vibrant neons! Also, if you really want to update this trend, you can create different shapes instead of the classic straight line; try triangular tips, or even rounded ones and you’ll see an immediate difference.
Matte
It might sound strange to think of a matte finish for such showy and vibrant colors, but to be honest, this is my favorite design of the entire list. The matte finish keeps the intensity of the colors, but adds some softness to them that makes them look different and so fashionable. If you can’t find the perfect neon color with that finish, you can always achieve it by applying a coat of mattifying varnish or even by sinking your recently painted nail on cornstarch.
Intricate decorations
If you’re a talented person (unlike me), you can always be a bit more creative and push it further. Tribal patterns with just a hint of neon can look really amazing or even adding some figures and designs can make your nails look as though you just left the nail salon. If you’re not, you can always use some nail stamps and just add some neon on them.
Color-blocking
Last but not least, sometimes the easiest techniques can be the most eye-catching ones. Why not use the color-blocking trend with neons? If you think it’s too much you can always add other colors to contrast with the neons or even some pastels to make really interesting combinations, just keep them colorful!
