I could not be happier. Finally, once and for all, the “baddie” look is starting to fade away from social media and fashion, and maybe it’s for the best. After ruling supreme on social media and becoming almost everyone’s go-to style, the latest fashion and makeup trends are bringing back once more natural textures and colors, and saying farewell to one of the most disgustingly narcissistic trends in fashion history.
What is the baddie look?
The baddie look is a fashion and makeup trend that is all about heavy makeup and sporty/street-style clothing. This style requires makeup that is on fleek, effortlessly flawless, with highlighted features (thanks to contouring), thick eyebrows, and loads of eyeliner. The outfits, in turn, consist of casual clothing or streetwear, prioritizing brands such as Nike, Adidas, and (the very overrated) Supreme. Its color palette is mainly beige, brown, white, grey, mauves, and nude colors.

The baddie look needed just one social media to explode: Instagram. The aim is to look sharp, flawless, sexy, and tough in your pictures, for example, by doing the booty tooch (when you arch your back). Yet, it has been criticized for being one of the latest representations of narcissism, and even tackiness, and yes, we can blame it on the Kardashians. It’s also been named as “the influencer outfit,” a generic trend that needs and has to go as soon as possible.
The baddie look is gone, but what’s next?
Makeup has decided to tone things down, finally. Natural makeup is the trend for this upcoming season, but without skimping on the daring factor. We’ll see frosted lips everywhere. Eyeliner will focus mainly on green, like acidic lime and neon. The always reliable black eyeliner would now be worn in the inner waterline to give more strength to your look without making your eyes look smaller.

Behold the no-makeup makeup look. Summer is THE season to leave your face all natural, so no more contouring, and yes, yes, yes to highlighters and bronzers. Sun kissed-skin will take over social media for sure. For the eyes, a sheer wash of fresh pink will grab everyone’s attention. Glittery, cobalt, and metallic eyeshadows are musts for the upcoming months; you only need a slight brush on the eyelid, as if it were a wash of soft metallic hues on your face.
For the lips, pink is king. Nude lipsticks are not completely gone, but you might want to go to the extra mile with glossy, glittery, frosted lip shades such as metallic pinks, berry, berry-stained, and reddish colors. Go easy on the blush, and keep the eyebrows light and natural (sorry to everyone who did microblading).

What about clothing for this spring-summer 2019? Well, enough with the nudes and beiges and HELLO to yellows, pinks, and blues. The 1990s-inspired California look, like the Valley girl, are stronger than ever, so you may want to try a few skirts, denim, and jackets that make you look savage, but with that retro Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air or Clueless vibe. Trust me, it’s a much better way to go than the ridiculously popular baddie look. Oh, may it rest in peace (for centuries to come).
