That Viral Clip of Lamine Yamal ‘Ignoring’ His Girlfriend? Here’s the Full Story

Lamine yamal and inés garcía santos celebrating spain's 2026 fifa world cup win together on the pitch at metlife stadium.

Three seconds of footage from MetLife Stadium were enough for the internet to decide that Lamine Yamal had snubbed his girlfriend, Inés García Santos, on the pitch right after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The clip spread fast on TikTok and X — and so did the takes. But the full picture of that night looks nothing like the version that went viral.

What the clip actually shows — and what it doesn’t

In the snippet that took over timelines, Yamal is wearing sunglasses and appears distracted by a smartphone screen — checking his reflection, by most accounts — while Inés stands right beside him on the confetti-covered pitch. He moves along. She stays. For a few frames, the body language reads cold, and the internet filled in the rest of the story with everything it already believes about young athletes and their relationships.

But a single clip pulled from the chaos of a World Cup final celebration — with cameras everywhere, family members flooding the field, and thousands of people moving in every direction — is maybe the worst possible evidence for anything. The moment was real. The interpretation was the kind of viral misread that keeps happening to celebrity couples social media has been perfecting for years.

What the rest of the night actually looked like

While the snippet circulated, other footage and photos from MetLife Stadium told a quieter, warmer story. Yamal and Inés spent long stretches sitting together on the pitch amid the confetti — hugging, kissing, laughing alongside Yamal’s mother and his younger brother Keyne. The celebration wasn’t a brief handshake and a goodbye; it was a family moment that lasted.

Shortly after the trophy ceremony, Inés posted a photo of the two of them holding the World Cup together on Instagram. Her caption: “You did it. Congratulations my love, you are the champion of the world. What pride! You deserve it, you’re the best.” Yamal replied publicly: “te amo mi amor 🤎.” Not exactly the response of someone who walked away.

The gap between the viral clip and the full night is a useful reminder of how selective a three-second video can be — especially when the algorithm rewards the version that hurts more. Inés García Santos has built a real public presence as a fashion influencer, and this wasn’t the first time a moment between her and Yamal got pulled apart online. It probably won’t be the last. But on the night Spain won its first World Cup in over a decade, the two of them were very much in it together.
