Christmas lights and First Ladies. This pairing has always been a part of the White House because First Ladies are traditionally in charge of showing the decorations to the press during the holidays. But there’s no doubt that none of Melania Trump’s predecessors were ever as harshly criticized as her.
In 2017, Melania’s Christmas decorations were white, and things were going fine, until her secretary made them public by posting a photo, and the First Lady was the target of critiques. Melania’s festive ambiance was not to the liking of most people across the internet, and her decorations were compared to that of a horror movie, like “The Blair Witch Project.”

The First Lady didn’t fare that much better in 2018, when she chose to decorate the halls with blood-red trees. As a result, people on social media compared the decorations to movies like “The Shining.”
Perhaps tired of the critics, this year, the First Lady decided to try something new and chose a style that’s lighter and more conservative.
“’The Spirit of America’ is shining in the @WhiteHouse! I am delighted to share this beautiful exhibit of patriotism for all to see, and excited for everyone to experience the beauty of the #Christmas season!”wrote FLOTUS on Twitter.
It’s not that bad this year, right?
If there’s one thing we can count on, is the First Lady facing the critics head on and moving along. What will the decorations look like next year? Is FLOTUS finally getting the hang of it?
