Each day we feel the weight of responsibilities and obligations bearing down on our lives, like school, work, people who depend on us and those who stop caring for our wellbeing. The hostility and immensity of the world around us makes us leave our goals and dreams in order to have a few hours a week to do what we want.
It’s not long before we’re neck deep in a harmful environment. The routine that once seemed like a path towards a particular goal is now extended to an end we can’t even see. What keeps us from being happy? How can we reset our path?
Here a few things we might need to rethink in our search for true happiness.

Resentment over minor things
There are moments we can never forget or even that are impossible to forgive. That being said, if we choose to make everything personal, or take it as an affront, eventually we will find ourselves alone.
We spend our days being busy but not productive
We wake up, spend our days in a state of stress, and go to bed still tense. However, how much were you able to do? Perhaps you need to fix your priorities and leave behind certain actions or goals that don’t fit into your present life. This applies with work, projects, even friendships and relationships.
We lose time fearing change
The everyday routine can become addictive and dangerous. You can forget your purpose in life and even think that change is impossible. Unless you have people counting on you, consider letting go of your fears in search for what makes you happy.

Our energy is spent blaming others
Stop thinking that all the bad things in your life are someone else’s fault. Because even if it’s true, it means you don’t value your role in your own story. Take control of the situation and do what you have to in order to get where you want to be. Instead of comparing yourself to others, find ways to achieve your goals.
We deny ourselves the things that make us happy.
There are things we can’t do and others we’re simply unwilling to do. But happiness is about taking risks and being open to a bit of chaos. Don’t let people and situations tether you to a mediocre and boring destiny. Develop a career or path that makes you feel challenged both professionally and personally.
We are led by anxiety and nostalgia
The past and the future are hard to accept. We are afraid of what’s to come yet hold on to who we once were. While we should always be looking forward, we need to keep ourselves in the present. Enjoy this moment and don’t take life too seriously.

Fear of failure
Why are we afraid of the one thing that is sure to happen in our lives? Each stumble makes us work harder to get to where we want to be. It’s better to try and fail than to keep yourself away from your dreams because there’s a chance it might not work out.
We complain about everything
Try to spend a week without complaining, using your energy to focus on finding a positive spin on life. It’s not about being naïve, but about remembering that even the bad things in life happen for a reason but should not deter us from being happy.
We choose drama over peace
Gossip and drama makes us part of the problem. We hold on to petty fights and get in the middle of things that don’t concern us. Save yourself some time and stop getting involved in things out of your control.

We make decisions without considering ourselves
If we’re always willing to be at the disposal of others, this will lead us down the path of putting ourselves in second place. Happiness is not about being selfish, but on focusing on what helps us reach our goals.
Happiness is a mental state that is hard to keep. Once we attain it, we need to continue working, so it will not fly away. It’s not about material things but our personal growth. Take a walk, meditate, or spend time with people who show us paths to happiness.
