Maria Fernanda Martinez, the woman who died in Jalisco, Mexico after being attacked by a shark, gave her life for her son as more details emerged. The young woman was just 26 years old, and her story has sent shockwaves across the world.

Woman Dies After Being Attacked by a Shark in Mexico

María Fernanda was swimming with her son at Melaque Beach in Cihuatlán when she realized that the shark was about to attack them. At that moment, the woman did not hesitate and pulled the 5-year-old boy onto an inflatable.

Despite efforts to provide immediate medical attention, the severity of the injuries proved fatal, resulting in the victim’s death. The incident occurred at the water park of the Punta Farallón resort and cooperative in San Patricio Melaque, in Cihuatlán, Jalisco.

According to witnesses, lifeguards were initially called to the scene because a woman was apparently drowning, as she was stuck by one of her limbs. The terrible moment was recorded by some bathers who were on the beach. In the video, you can see the commotion of the people as they pull the young woman out of the sea without a leg due to the shark attack.

Unfortunately, those seconds cost her her life as the shark bit her. As the shark submerged, the animal cut off her leg, and Maria Fernanda died moments later from drowning. When María Fernanda’s body was recovered, Civil Protection and firefighters confirmed that she no longer had vital signs. Despite the attack, the 5-year-old was not injured.

The La Huerta City Council called on people to exercise extreme caution following the tragedy. “Given the events that occurred in Cihuatlán, Jalisco, we ask the public to take precautions on the beaches of our municipality. The emergency numbers are 357-384-11-70, 357-384-07-78, and 357-384-07-00.″

As the hours have passed, more details have emerged about the life of María Fernanda Martínez. She was just 26 years old and had a degree in Marine Biology from the Centro Universitario de la Costa Sur. In fact, the institution dedicated an emotional message to her when her death was confirmed.
