Deportation is currently the order of the day in the United States. In a surprising twist, a U.S. citizen who cast her vote for Donald Trump revealed that her British husband, if given the chance, would have done the same. Despite their political alignment, the couple now confronts the harsh reality of the U.S. immigration system, with the husband facing potential deportation back to the United Kingdom.

The couple’s predicament gained widespread attention after the wife shared their story on TikTok. In the video, she detailed their arduous and costly journey through the U.S. immigration process. They had invested nearly $15,000 in legal fees, applications, and related expenses to secure a green card for her husband.

Why Could You Get Deported?

Deportation, or removal, occurs when the U.S. government orders a non-citizen to leave the country for violating immigration laws. Several circumstances can lead to deportation:

  • Visa Overstay: Remaining in the U.S. beyond the authorized period.
  • Criminal Convictions: Certain crimes, especially those involving moral turpitude or aggravated felonies, can make a non-citizen deportable.
  • Violation of Visa Terms: Engaging in activities not permitted under one’s visa category, such as unauthorized employment.
  • Failure to Maintain Legal Status: Not adhering to the conditions of one’s immigration status.
  • Fraud or Misrepresentation: Providing false information to immigration authorities.
