This youtuber is the living embodiment of what it means to be a Mexican abuelita, and people love her for it. Everything about her screams Mexico, down right to the fact her channel is about cooking traditional homemade recipes that reflect pretty much the best that Mexican cuisine has to offer.
De Mi Rancho a Tu Cocina
Known as Doña Angela, her channel has quickly grown in popularity since her first video went up just a month ago, reaching over 10 million views in a matter of weeks. Impressive.
The channel is called De Mi Rancho a Tu Cocina, which literally means “From My Ranch To Your Kitchen.” And just as the name suggests, everything Doña Angela cooks is made with ingredients from her own ranch, featuring such dishes as bistec con nopales and mole de rancho.
So far, De Mi Rancho a Tu Cocina has only 14 videos, each accumulating more views in less time than the previous one. The very first video, uploaded on August and titled “My first recipe De Mi Rancho A Tu Cocina,” has over 600,000 views, whereas one of the latest, “Aporreadillo De Mi Rancho A Tu Cocina” has already nabbed 1.5 million so far. For reference, the latest upload, “Corundas Michoacanas De Mi Rancho a tu cocina,” got more than 590,000 views in less than one day. That’s a pretty astonishing growth right there.
A great concept
And there’s a good reason why the videos have become so popular all around Latin America, having already secured a pretty huge Spanish-speaking base. They remind pretty much all of us about our own grandmothers, cooking those unparalleled dishes that basically defined our childhoods. There’s nothing quite like a home-cooked meal from your grandma, after all.
If done right, her dishes’ flavors are exactly what homemade Mexican food should taste like, just as my abuelita would’ve done it. The channel is now featuring English subtitles for those whose Spanish is not as strong as their desire to learn from this rising star. Hopefully, they’ll draw a far wider audience that can appreciate all this charismatic abuelita has to offer.
And with all this good work and rapid growth, we can’t wait to see what De Mi Rancho a Tu Cocina will become in the coming months.
