This week, Instagram and other social media networks have been flooded with grid pictures of people showing how much they’ve changed in the past ten years. The “ten year challenge,” better known for its hashtag #10yearchallenge or #tenyearchallenge, is supposed to make us feel better about how great we look today, compared to our younger selves from ten years ago.
Naturally, after seeing everyone’s transformations, I couldn’t help but want to try it myself. However, after some intense scrolling, I realize that, although I’ve made great strides when it comes to style and beauty choices, there’s nothing like that effortless glow we all have when we’re young.
Now, this doesn’t seem to be an issue for the many celebrities who have uploaded their challenge pictures. All of them, instead of looking older or just different, look as if they had Benjamin Button syndrome. How is that possible, you may ask? The answer to is obviously money. There’s no way to compare the beauty products we millennials and Gen Zers can afford with the extremely expensive (and sometimes really weird) treatments celebrities resort to.
This is no rant, though. It’s an invitation to sit down and look at how little these people have changed in the last ten years, while the rest of us mortals had no choice but to get older.
