This year Charlie Brown had more guests to the traditional and almost centennial Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which every year attracts thousands of spectators to the streets of New York City. The Nutcracker, Sunny The Snowpal, and four elves from Netflix’s “The Christmas Chronicles” were part of the new characters that joined the parade, but one of the highlights of the whole celebration was Little Cloud.
The parade, which started in 1924, originally included animals, but the balloons with special and popular characters from the television and film industries made it one of the most important events related to popular culture.
So, here are some fun facts about this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade that will make you want to book a trip to New York for 2019.
Charlie Brown
Charlie Brown first appeared in the parade in 2002. His famous kite is 26 feet wide and nearly 30 feet tall, and its tail is more than 80 feet long.
Goku
Dragon Ball’s Goku made his premiere at the iconic march this morning. It is the first time a Japanese manga character appears in the parade.
Netflix’s “The Christmas Chronicle” Fleck, Bjorn, Jojo and Hugg
This is the first time Netflix is featured in the parade, with these four elves from the recent film that promises to be one of the must-watch shows of the season.
Little Cloud
A cute cloud created by contemporary artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, which is the seventh balloon in Macy’s Blue Sky Gallery art ballon series and debuted this year.
The Nutcracker
Think about your small Christmas decorations inspired by this traditional character. Ok, now think about them but 24 times bigger!
Sunny The Snowpal
This original character was created for Macy’s 2018 holiday campaign.
Sinclair’s DINO
The first time it appeared was in 1963, and the original DINO balloon was inducted as an honorary member of the Museum of National History in 1975.
The Elf on the Shelf
It is one of the largest floats in the parade by height, width, and length.
Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch
Along with his dog Max, these are the fourth giant floats to take flight as a duo.
Olaf
Who doesn’t love Disney’s Frozen and sings “Let it go, let it go” every time there is an Elsa or an Olaf around? This is the first-ever float to glisten, mimicking real snow.
Paw Patrol
Some of the most popular characters with children nowadays are these puppies. Chase’s hat could cover a police squad car. Can you picture the scene?
Pikachu
You might feel old when you know that this is the 18th time that Pikachu flies over New York, just in time for the upcoming film starring Ryan Reynolds.
Pillsbury Doughboy
If you have ever wondered how many Pillsbury Crescent Rolls are needed to create a float-sized version of the pastry, here is the answer: more than four million!
Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger
Another fact that might make you feel old: The Power Rangers have just turned 25. This float is the largest in the entire parade.
Ronald McDonald
What’s your shoe size? Because the iconic “Big Red Shoes” of the popular clown are 6 feet long!
Spongebob Squarepants
Gravity makes it difficult to handle a square float, so here goes a round of applause to the people who carry it!
Toothless
I’ve always imagined a dragon flying over New York City, and this is one of the best chances to see it in real life.
Trolls
If you think you’re having a bad hair day, it’s because you don’t have a 12-feet-tall mane!
Balloonicless
Another innovation at this year’s parade were the Balloonicles, hybrid, cold-air ballons and self-propelled vehicles that surprised the audience. Among these were three newborn Baby DINOS from Sinclair Oil Corporation, and a huge bowling ball with its corresponding bowling pins that made everyone want to go bowling after the parade.

This is the ninth time the famous character flies in the parade.
