1. Blue Hole
Wherever you are in Texas, you’ll probably get a chance to take a dip. The first place I would head to, though, would be a spot called the Blue Hole, near Wimberley. It’s widely know and popular, and with good reason. It’s a massive hole that goes down for many many feet, so it’s perfect for you to take a dive in it. But the hole hasn’t been there for that long. In fact, it’s man-made, and this giant crater was created when the dome over an underground river caved in. Head over to Krause Springs in Spicewood for the least crowded swimming spot. Make sure you jump into the water on a rope swing. If you dare, that is.

2. Medina River
Swimming is cool, but you know what’s even cooler? Kayaking on a river. Tunnels, tunnels, and more tunnels. All you see are tunnels of trees that guide you towards Bandera, as you float along the Medina river. The good thing about this trip is it doesn’t get as crowded as other destinations, so it’s not only a good way to freshen up but also to get some for yourselves deep in the state of Texas.

3. Gorman Falls
If it’s wow factor you’re looking for, then look no further. Head to Colorado Bend State Park (the road there will offer one of the most scenic drives in the state). Once you get there, you cannot miss the park’s main attraction: Gorman Falls. This hike is only 1.5 miles long, and it’s great for the outdoors fix we all need every once in a while. Watch out, though, because the last hundred yards is made up of a rocky path that is very steep. At the end, however, it’ll be worth it. You’ll start hearing water make noise from far away, but as you get closer you’ll actually feel the mist. Behold, the cascades. About half a dozen of them, actually. After that, you probably know what happens next. Dive in there, people.

4. Austin
There’s no place like Austin. Texas’ capital has it all, and it stands out as one of the most eclectic places in the country. It also has great food. Thankfully, spring break coincides with one of the best and wildest music festivals in the year: South by Southwest, aka SXSW. During the festival, the entire city becomes a venue, so that in itself is pretty cool. Austin also features many parks and many places to go for a swim or just surround yourself with nature. So make sure that while you visit the “live music capital of the world,” you also give other attractions a chance. Head out there and explore all that it’s got to offer.

5. Lake Texoma
The drive to the Oklahoma-Texas border is a bit long, but not if you’re looking for hidden treasure. Paradise exists and it’s called Lake Texoma (a portmanteaou of Texas and Oklahoma, get it?). It’s a popular destination for both Texans and Oklahoman, and it’s actually only an hour away from Dallas. So head down there and take your fishing rod, swimsuit, and explore its thousands of acres. Don’t forget to party at Fobb Bottom, but if it’s calm you seek, you’ll surely be able to find spot after spot that is just right for you to get some piece of mind.
