For second year in a row, Finland was ranked the happiest in the world, and they want to spread this happiness to the rest of us. To do so, they are offering the possibility of a free vacation to foreigners who want to learn to be happy.
First things first: why is Finland the happiest country in the world?
After March 20th, declared the official international day of happiness by the UN seven years ago, all the countries in the world are ranked according to several variables, such as freedom, trust, income, health and life expectancy, social security, and generosity.
Although for many Finland might seem like a cold, dark country, making it a sad place to live, it seems these social issues and advantages are more important for human happiness than climate alone.

“Rent a Finn”
This program that allows people to take a free vacation in Finland is called Rent a Finn and the goal is to let people from all over the world spend three days during the summer with happy Finnish people or families, so the visitors can understand what makes this country the happiest in the world, and learn about their easygoing and relaxed lifestyle.

Happiness guides
The program has chosen eight homes in the country to be the hosts for the visitors, but all expenses will be paid by the National Board of Tourism, Visit Finland. Some of the hosts are families, while others are people who live alone. These “happiness guides” will share their guests how they commune with nature. Here you can get to know the hosts better; they are Petri, Linda & Niko, Juho, Timo, Hanna, Katja, Esko, and Laura & Joni.
How to be happy in Finland
Besides learning about the variables set by the UN to pick the happiest place on Earth, the winners of the program “Rent a Finn” will have the opportunity to visit eight villages in the country and take part in activities such as grilling, berry picking, boat riding, and will learn traditional games, because according to the Finnish, the key to happiness is to be in contact with nature. “While the rest of the world goes to therapy, in Finland we get in our boots and go clean the forest”, they say.

How to be part of this happy experiment?
If you want to go live for a few days with a happy Finnish family, all you have to do is send a video (max. 3 min) to the website “Rent a Finn.” The video has to make clear what your relationship with nature is and explain why you want to travel to this European country. You also have to fill in the form in the website.
Visit Finland will pick the most suitable candidates, and the winners will be notified individually.
We know that nobody goes to Finland to spend only three days, and you have to be aware that, after these three days, you are responsible for all expenses.
The deadline to submit your video is April 14, so hurry up and submit your application if you want to discover the secret to happiness, according to Finland.
